There is not a day VVIP members will take to a stage to perform and have a member of the audience seated. Everyone stands from when they get on stage to when they ‘drop’, even if it were a cameo.
On Friday November 28, 2014 the group got on the MTN Hitmaker finale stage and gave patrons a thrilling, show-stopping performance that lasted for a little over 15 minutes but got the crowd stoned with euphoria.
In what looked like an onstage-competition among the controversial trio, Reggie Rockstone, Prodigal and Zeal on the night performed some of the popular old songs from VIP collections and some exciting old tunes from Reggie Rockstone’s earlier albums as well.
With the audience enjoying the back and forth amidst laughter and dancing, the trio announced a surprise reunion and had VIP founder ‘Friction’ join them on stage to do a nostalgic rendition of Obaa Sweetie.
This is by far the best stage cameo in Ghana’s musical history knowing the roller coaster background of their relationship.
Friction is credited for being the force behind the formation of VIP – Vision in Progress.
Formed in 1997, Friction also known as Bone, Promzy, Lazzy/Zeal and Prodigal were a force to reckon with on the Ghanaian Hiplife scene until Friction decided to pursue a solo career left the group after two successful albums.
The group evolved a lot since then but kept a successful career going. Downed by another member Promzy, VIP was short of one more chord to bind them, Prodigal and Zeal accepted a partnership offer from Hiplife Grandpapa Rockstone to join the group for complementary reasons.
But Friction’s stage act with VVIP on Friday night got a lot of their fans wondering if they were working out a comeback with him or not.
Friction’s solo career has not been as successful as expected and many music lovers will be happy to see him back.
