For the second time in a row, the Face of ASSENS under the Department of English at the University of Education, Winneba, smashed the headlines on Friday, August 9, 2024, up to Saturday morning, August 10, 2024, at the Lecture Theater 3, North Campus.
This event has become an annual beauty pageant from the Association of Students of English (ASSENS), and this year, 6 female contestants competed for the queen’s crown: Linda, Irene, Dr. Pat, Abigail, Sedem, and Efe, while only 2 male contestants battled for the king’s crown: Kantanka and Kwame.
The Face of ASSENS 2024 comes under the theme “Redefining Beauty to Promote Ghanaian Culture through Education,” and with the language-based departmental association poised for yet another massive night, the pageantry did not disappoint, according to Ermines Onyema, the official announcer for swimming at the Africa Games 2024.
Eventually, for the feminine category, Patience Numekevor, with the stage name Dr. Pat, shocked the audience by winning the Face of ASSENS 2024, with Efe finishing as the 1st runner-up while Abigail settled for the 2nd runner-up.
Irene placed fourth, and Linda and Sedem came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
For the male category, Kantanka won it marginally to be crowned Mr. ASSENS
2024, as Kwame remained second.
The night was full of exciting energy from the crowd as UEW’s biggest DJ, Kobbyrich, delivered an epic performance with back-to-back tunes to electrify the crowd.
Sosnationmusic made a glorious entry with his new song Beyond Blessings, as international dancers Copain stole the show with a terrific display among others, including Ni-Nafi and Unistarz.
The night was full of surprises as Guest MC Asiedu Kwame Philip, Executive Managing Director of Vision 500 International (Ghana, USA), did not disappoint with his multi-dimensional role as a professional MC alongside his co-MCs.
According to sports broadcaster Ermines Onyema (ErmBarometer), this is the second time in UEW history that a departmental beauty pageant has gone viral in the university, still behind the much-talked-about Miss UEW.
Gideon Adu and Mercy Yaba Bredu, President and Vice President of ASSENS, underscored the role of this beauty pageant to the audience.
Meanwhile, the grand finale saw over 750 people in attendance, as Mr. Stephen Osei Achiaw, UTAG-UEW President, Mr. Ebenezer Ghampson, and Mr. Isaac Owusu Nyarko (lecturers) were all in attendance.
Felix Donkor, former UEW-SRC President, Esi Clarke, Miss UEW 2024, Delali Hotor, former GNATOC-UEW Chairperson; and many invited guests and student-leaders
including past and current beauty queens across the University of Education, Winneba, all attended.
