Farmer arrested for polluting stream

Mampong (Ash), April 29, GNA- The Mampong police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old farmer of Asare-Nkwanta, Kwabena Boateng for polluting the Kyeremfa stream.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, at Mampong, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Emmanuel Arzah, the Mampong Divisional Crime Officer said on 24th April, 2004, large species of fish were found floating in the stream which had turned milky.

He said, following this development, Nana Yaw Boamah, Odikro of Asare-Nkwanata informed the police about the situation and when they went to the stream they found the water to be milky.

ASP Arzah said, following investigations, Boateng was mentioned as the prime suspect among others, now on the run and he was therefore arrested for interrogation.

The Divisional Crime Officer said a sample of the water brought to the police by Nana Boamah would be sent to the police forensic laboratory in Accra for analysis.

In the meantime, the suspect who denied involvement in the alleged pollution of the stream has been granted police enquiry bail, while the police have intensified search for those connected with the pollution of the stream.
