Cape Coast, March 25 GNA, Stephen Asante, a 31 year-old farmer from Jukwa-Mbem near Cape Coast, who attempted to undress a woman and forcibly have sex with her and later stole from her, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody for indecent assault and stealing, by a circuit court at Cape Coast.
Asante who pleaded guilty, had his sentence deferred until Thursday April 8.
Prosecuting, Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court, presided over by Mr Kwame Essel that Asante and the complainant live in the same vicinity at
Jukwa-Mbem and that on the night of February 11 this year, at about 10 pm, the complainant was sleeping in front of her house, when she suddenly felt someone trying to remove her skirt, and woke up to see Asante. He said when she queried him as to what he wanted, he offered her 10,000 cedis to allow him to have sex with her, but the complainant collected the money and went to Asante's sister's house to inform her about her brother's behaviour.
Inspector Azasoo said as soon as the complainant left, Asante took advantage of her absence, entered her room and stole a container of gel curl activator, but her husband who was in the room, caught him but he managed to escape.
The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested.
Jailbird goes in again for six years for stealing
Cape Coast March 25, GNA - Kofi Fianu, a 22-year-old unemployed man, was on Thursday sentenced to six years imprisonment with hard labour by a circuit court at Cape Coast for stealing property valued at 15 million cedis belonging to one Mr Kweku Oppong.Fianu, who has been to prison twice for similar offences pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court, presided over by Mr. Kwame Essel that on March 11 this year, Fianu broke into Mr Oppong's tailoring shop in at Coronation, a suburb of Cape Coast and made away with assorted suiting materials, clothes and a mobile phone. Mr. Oppong detected the theft the following morning and made a report to the police and while investigations were going on, Mr Oppong saw a friend of Fianu's with his mobile phone and when he was confronted, he mentioned Fianu as the person who gave it to him and Fianu was arrested.
He confessed to the crime, but failed to identify those to whom he had sold the suiting materials and clothes.
