Farmer jailed for causing harm to his son

Nkoranza (B/A), March 27, GNA- The Nkoranza District Court on Tuesday sentenced Thomas Doore, also known as Agya Boffour, a farmer at Asuoso, to five years imprisonment in hard labour for causing unlawful harm on his son and a colleague.

He pleaded guilty to causing unlawful harm to his son, Kwabena Ketewa and Donye Dagarti, both pupils of Asuano Local Primary School. The Court also fined the accused three million cedis as compensation to Donye. In default would serve additional two years in prison in hard labour. Chief Inspector Augustine Webura of the Nkoranza Police station told the Court that on March 17, this year, the two boys and some other friends were plucking cashew nuts from a farm at the outskirts of the village when the accused went there with a sharp matchet and a stick.

Chief Inspector Webura said the accused got hold of his son, Kwabena Ketewa and beat him severely.

The prosecution said the accused again threw the matchet at Donye, slashing his right heel and a deep cut on the ankle. Donye fell and bled profusely but was rushed to St. Theresa's Hospital by some people around.

Chief Inspector Webura said the police later arrested the accused.
