Farmer to compensate ex-lover for threatening her with death

Asamankese, Feb. 5, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit court has ordered Kwasi Gafa, a farmer who threatened to kill an ex-lover if she failed to renew their relationship with one million cedis.

Gafa, who pleaded guilty would go to prison for six months in default. He was also ordered to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for three years or to serve six months in prison in default.

Detective Chief Inspector Osei Owusu, prosecuting told the court, presided over by Mr S. S. Appiah that Gafa befriended Margaret Akakpo some years ago and had one child with her.

Several appeals by Margaret and her family to Gafa to perform the customary rites proved futile. Besides, Gafa was in the habit of beating up Margaret for no apparent reason.

As a result, she decided to end her relationship with him. But ever since, Gafa had been threatening her with death if she refused to return to him.

On December 11, 2003 at about 10.00 a.m. Gafa called on Margaret, held her and tried to drag her into the room.

A struggle ensued and in the course, he drew a knife and threatened that if she did not submit to his request, he would stab her to death. Margaret however, managed to flee the house to Teacher Mante to inform her relatives. She also reported the matter to relatives at Koforidua and Accra who advised her to lodge a complaint with the police.
