How do you define your broken? Because how you define your broken will determine how you live your life after it!
When a mug drops to the ground, there are 3 options available to you. You either choose to use it like that because it is only the handle that broke or; you will try and get epoxy or any other adhesive to fix it hoping it will work. The next option available is to throw the whole mug away. And this same applies to all BROKEN human beings.
Being broken through the journey of life is as constant as breathing every day. At a point, you will be pieces of yourself: shattered, crushed, overwhelmed and completely broken! There are people who would like to operate in their brokenness hoping that they wouldn’t ever need to use the handle again but truth is, the mug has a handle for a reason. If not, they would have come as mere mugs, without handles. Operating under such circumstances might be injurious in the future owing to the fact that should you ever drop the mug one day due to its content being hot, I doubt you will be able to salvage both your hot choco and the mug.
Then, there is the second group that will think of epoxy as a champion adhesive that can hold all the shattered pieces of the mug; it holds a sentimental value that can’t be lost. 'It was given to me by my … and therefore, I can’t bring myself to throw it in the bin. It has been in our family for centuries. I would rather mend the broken pieces and put them on the shelf to serve as an antique.' These people lose sight of the fact that a piece or two went under the cabinet and can’t be retrieved. She only realizes it after she has done all the joining thus, losing a huge chunk of the mug and inadvertently, a huge chunk of themselves. No wonder there are many living their forever with some level of emptiness. And can you blame them?
The lens they are employing to even view their circumstances is also as shattered as their broken lives. How do you attempt healing and putting the pieces of you together when there is another option: FACTORY RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS.
Truth is, factory resetting your life is not and can never be a walk in the park so why would you start with broken pieces of yourself when you can re-build, re-invent, and re-define? After an earthquake when your home is destroyed, would you use the old blocks to re-build? Or, you will take into consideration all factors that made your house crumble and do it better. Thus, should another one hit, it would be solidly resistant. Not just that but, you might actually even add a room or two or even reduce the number. And definitely, you might have seen a modern architecture that made yours look like a museum. Wouldn’t you rather have a different building altogether?
One thing I strongly would affirm to is that it is not going to be easy trying to build a new house. It won’t happen with the speed of lightening. It will take time but I can promise you one thing: that no matter how long it takes, factory resetting your life, doing away with the old mentality, and taking on a new mentality helps. It will give you the opportunity to see the world differently and if you are an optimist like myself, and actually view it positively, you will rise above your circumstances and be grateful for that which broke you.
Life is just one! Living it has no rewinds! All it has is a forward button, press it and keep moving. Even if you will attempt a rewind, let it be because it will bring positivity to your forward button. Being broken is not a choice, but being gracefully broken is.
I am Naa! And I am GRACEFULLY BROKEN!!
