The police have mounted a manhunt for a fetish priest who is suspected to be the leader of a gang of armed robbers. This follows the discovery of a human skull and jaw at his shrine at Atwima Kokoben, near Akropong, in Ashanti.Promise Ahiator, who is known by residents as a fetish priest, was described by the police as the kingpin of a group of armed robbers operating in some parts of Kumasi metropolis.
Police said he attempted to snatch a taxi cab from its owner at gun point with an accomplice who is also on the run. When the youth sought to arrest him, Ahiafor shot at Anthony Ampoma, one of them. Inspector Yusif Mohammed Tanko, of the Kumasi Police Public Affairs Unit, told the Times newspaper, that the youth managed to arrest Ahiator, inflicted cutlass wounds on him and left him to his fate, but some accomplices took him away to unknown place for treatment.
He said the incident, which took place at 8.30pm at Atwima Kokoben on August 12, this year resulted in the youth vandalising the house and shrine of Ahiator during which they discovered the human parts. Ampoma was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment while the human parts are with the Abuakwa police.Inspector Tanko said preliminary investigations into the incident revealed, that Ahiator and the other accomplice went on a robbery spree and attempted to snatch the taxi cab from its owner but failed.
