Nana Obiri Yeboah, director of award-winning film, ‘The Cursed Ones’ has noted with concern the use of s?x scenes anyhow in Ghanaian movies.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, this week, the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Best Director indicated that a s?x scene plays very well into a story if its absence would upset the potency of the storyline.

However such scenes, according to Nana Obiri Yeboah are abused in Ghanaian movies as some producers are of the view that consumers would be entertained as a result.

He has therefore challenged colleagues to desist from that in order to save the image of the already dipping industry.

“People have the ideology that s?x on screens will entertain people but the thing is s?x in a wrong context will not entertain people. S?x in a wrong context is like pornography but if it is in the right context, it becomes an art. These are some of the little things which are lacking in our films,” he told KMJ.

Nana Obiri Yeboah argued that one of the surest ways to improve the quality of movies was proper scripts.

“I think the whole downturn of this Ghanaian film industry is all because of some of the movies we put on screens… Sometimes I’m not able to watch our films. The dialogue is like the talking plot. You don’t write the script as a plot,” he noted.

‘The Cursed Ones’ won three awards [Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best in Production Design] out of thirteen nominations at the 12th edition of the AMAAs held at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

The movie tells the story of a disillusioned reporter and a young, reformed pastor’s attempt to save the life of a child accused of witchcraft by bravely fighting back against corruption and false prophets.
