First Israeli Film Festival in Ghana kicks off this Thursday

For movie goers who have always yearned for an opportunity to see the Israeli culture in all its wit and glamour, this weekend presents a unique opportunity as the first Israeli Film Festival set to give movie lovers a window into the Israeli culture comes off this Thursday night with at the Silverbird Cinemas with carefully selected award winning Israeli movies from the past decade ranging from action, comedy, drama, family and romance.

The three-day film festival will provide a significant platform for the showcasing of Israeli cinema and the exposure of the unique aspects of the Israeli culture, explore the Israeli experience from different perspectives on Israeli identity and its relationship with others with great emphasis on an outlook and pluralistic values and serve as an eye-opener for many.

Opening the film festival will be an exclusive gala screening of award winning Israeli movie ‘FOOTNOTE’ – a piercing satire, a poignant family drama and an investigation of the competing claims of honesty, loyalty, ambition and love directed by Joseph Cedar.

The other movies to be screened include Colombian Love, 5 hours from Paris, Turn Left at the End of the World and The Band’s Visit on Friday and Saturday at 6:30pm and 9pm respectively, expect for Thursday which movie will be shown at 9pm.

“Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sharon Bar-li remarks that “It's a real pleasure to see Israeli movies screened here in Accra, and I'm already looking forward to hear from my friends how they find the movies.”

“There's a real curiosity in Ghana regarding Israel and I hope this little window that we open this weekend will allow as many people as possible to get a glimpse. I welcome all Ghanaians to come to at least one of the movies and most important, have an evening of fun!"

The screenings are opened to the public and are entirely free of charge.
