Five granted bail for setting chief's house ablaze

Tema, May 27, GNA- Five people who allegedly set fire to the house of Marljor, near Dodowa have each been granted 50 million cedis bail by the Tema circuit court "B".

Atta Boye Sowatey, Okoe Obodai, Abam Obodai, Sai Obodai and another whose name was given as Tetteh, pleaded not guilty and they will re-appear on June nine.

Chief Inspector Alice Gyamfi, told the court that on March 27, 2004, when the chief of Marljor decided to celebrate his 27th anniversary of his enstoolment, he had information that Sowatey and four others were planning to attack him.

The chief under the cover of darkness at mid night, escaped to La, Accra.

The accused persons forced opened the chief's door, entered the room and set it ablaze and caused damage to his property worth 17 million cedis.

Chief Inspector Gyamfi said a report was made to the police and accused persons arrested.
