Ghanaian transgender and LGBTQ rights activist Angel Maxine has responded to recent comments made by gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy regarding homosexuality. 

Ohemaa Mercy, in an interview with TV3, advised Ghana’s leaders to reject homosexual activities, citing them as something God detests and warning that acceptance could bring doom to the nation.

However, in a pointed reaction shared on social media, Angel Maxine criticized Ohemaa Mercy for her stance, stating, "Ohemaa Mercy, you’re a combination of illiteracy and colonized mentality! Please concentrate on your music and stay away from LGBTQI+ issues. Thank you."

Maxine's response comes amid the ongoing tension and debate surrounding LGBTQ rights in Ghana, particularly in light of the pending Anti-LGBT+ Bill. 

The bill, which is still awaiting approval from parliament, has sparked significant controversy and discussion within the country.

Per the Anti-LGBT+ Bill, persons caught in LGBT+ acts would be subjected to six months to a three-year jail term, with promoters and sponsors bearing a three- to five-year jail term.
