Some protesters dressed in black attires at the #FreeTheCitizens demonstration held in Accra, have jammed to the song of Ghanaian dancehall musician, Stonebwoy's 'Run Go.
In a 2-minute video by GhanaWeb, the protesters were seen seriously singing the song being played in the background.
The 'Run Go' song talks about economic hardships, illegal mining, overgrazing, deforestation, and how such activities have caused a disaster to human health.
Artiste Stonebwoy over the years has been advocating against illegal mining and the destruction of Ghana's natural resources, however, in the recent #FreetheCitizens and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, some individuals backlashed the reggae artiste for not involving himself in the protest.
Background
On Sunday, September 22, 2024, some protesters were arrested during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration.
The arrests followed a three-day protest at the 37 Military Hospital Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.
The protesters have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. They face five charges: conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.
They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.
