The night in Accra International Conference Centre was one that would forever be remembered by the individuals who attended the event. People came from different homes to witness the event in full support and they weren’t disappointed as Sarkodie put up a charged performance. The fans roared at each song performed.
The crowd at Accra International Conference Centre on Sunday dawn was very befitting of the concert’s name 'VGMA 2018'. The Concert headlined by Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in collaboration with Tv3 started around 7pm with around 20,000 music lovers well prepared.
The event as usual, began with the glam from the Red Carpet which saw Celebrities showing off what they wore and talking about what they expect for the night. This year’s edition brings to you Berla Mundi and John Dumelo as Host of the main events stage and Johnnie Hughes and Amanda Jissih as red carpet host.
The stage looked colourful and lighting effects looked great! There were thrilling performances, Fancy Gadam pop up on stage wearing a smock. A clever way to portray his culture and it was so beautiful and catchy to watch. He was energetic on stage seeing him recall his old days, with some dance moves.
Hiplife duet Praye, reunited for the first time since their split on the stage, invoking fond memories with live performances of classics they courted massive acclaim for back when they were active as a band.
A video clip which captured tributes by artistes to the audience, who have passed on was shown in a tribute in remembrance to some fallen heros and heroines.
MzVee performed a debut of Ebony's 'Date Ur Fada' which sent tears down some people especially Ebony's mother who sat next to her divorce husband in the auditorium could not hold her tears.
Performance from Mzvee was not the only tribute song as we see the likes of Akosua Agyapong, Adina and Efya performed Hustle, Sponsor and Maame Hwe in Ebony's remembrance .
Things were moving fast. Things moved much faster when Sarkodie mounted the stage. Sarkodie the rap god mc has a huge following. The stage and sound were well on point throughout the event with only the microphone proving to be the black spot.
As it always happens with Ghanaian events, one microphone has to stop working in the middle of a speech or performance. It might well boil down to just technology failing as or some other weird conspiracy theories. The concert in itself was a blast! Patrons had fun as they were treated to stunning performances from Sarkodie as he spit more punchlines with a lot of catchy lines.
The rap god was a delight to listen to and watch. Sarkodie bossed the event! his appearance was another headline for another day.
Ebony, Kwesi Arthur, Fancy Gadam, Samini, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Adina, Joe Mettle (Artiste Of The Year), Shatta Wale, Davido and few others won awards. Very unfortunate that Patapaa who broke through the music industry with a lot of expectations to win 'Vodafone Song Of The Year' went home empty handed, very discouraging and heartbreaking for the young star and his fans.
