GIS MARKS INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH WEEK-LONG EVENT

Starting from Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March, Ghana International School (GIS) will celebrate Ghana Week in commemoration of Ghana’s Independence Day (6 March). The Vice-Principal of the Junior School, Mrs Mary Ocansey said the event was important and formed part of the diverse education promised at GIS.

She added, “This year, we wanted to dedicate a whole week towards the celebration of Ghana’s Independence Day. Ghana has such a rich history and heritage and we want to ensure all our children, whether Ghanaian or non-Ghanaian have full awareness of Ghana culture. Through this event, we continue to ensure that our children forge a true understanding of each other.”

For the past few weeks, students have been researching interesting facts about Ghana, including famous political speeches, regional differences, and the countries resources, as well as popular tourist spots. They will showcase their findings and take part in a fashion show and drama and dance as part of the event. Ghana Week is sponsored by The African Regent Hotel, simply ‘Afropolitan’.
