GUBA awards have been branded as the best Ghanaian event yet after it celebrated the achievements of Ghanaians in the UK last weekend.
Founded by TV personality Dentaa, the Ghana UK based achievement awards on Sunday opened an opportunity for the unrecognised to be acknowledged.
Dentaa said “GUBA’s vital aim is to honour the achievements of Ghanaians living in the UK and also to boost the level of successes within the Ghanaian community in the UK.”
Winners on the night included Gospel veteran Sonnie Badu, legendary pop group Osibisa, Goldcoast Bar and restaurant, John Mensah, Josh hair and beauty, speedlink shipping etc The Blackstars were also accredited on the night for their efforts at the World Cup. John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and GUBA Patron John Painstil were present to receive this special award.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of the first GUBA awards and to be awarded makes it even better. I am very proud of the boys and what we did at the World cup. I feel proud to be a Ghanaian right now.”
To top it all Asamoah Gyan and Hiplife artist Castro gave a special performance performing their hit track aptly titled African girls. The duo wooed the crowd with their carefully planned routine and the Gyan dance which was first seen in South Africa. The Ballon d’or nominee was very excited to have performed for the first time in the UK. He said “Aside football music has always been my passion, I just love performing”.
One of the attendees, Ellen Thomas said “The GUBA awards was fabulous, every where I looked I saw a fab celebrity. I must say I cant wait for next years awards show.”
Delighted by the responses, Dentaa is certain the GUBA awards will be even better next year and new procedures of voting will be introduced. So far no date has been set for the GUBA awards 2011.
