When Nollywood star actress Genevieve Nnaji said at the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards that it was the first time she was spending Christmas outside of Nigeria, some people thought she was just being a diva and even more people wondered how much the actress was being paid for her to forfeit a tradition that obviously meant a lot to her. Well perhaps her reasons were a combination of the two or simply Ghana was the right place for her to spend her first ever non-Nigerian Christmas.
In fact, since she was not in a rush to catch a flight back home the following day but rather spent 3 days at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra, it is safe to assume that perhaps she has really found a home away from home in Ghana. The very private actress, who stayed in her hotel room for the most part of her stay, was spotted every now and then when she stepped out into the restaurant for dinner.
Genevieve was also spotted shopping at the Woodin and Vlisco shops in Accra perhaps for her fashion brand, St. Genevieve. The St. Genevieve creations were inspired by the actress and put together by Nigerian fashion designer, Lamide Ajayi of Iconola. Presently, these r prêt-à-porter cloths can be purchased at Iconola boutique on the Victoria Island. She plans to throw the door open for other boutique to purchase in wholesale and take it to other part of the country.
While in Ghana, Genevieve received the Ghana Movie Award for Best Actress / West African Collaboration, for her role in ‘Silent Scandal’. Big Brother All Stars winners, Uti Nwachuku who had earlier said that he was unsure of the awards ceremony because he hadn’t been dully notified won the Best Actor / West African Collaboration nod for his role in ‘Bursting Out’. Majority of Ghanaian feel that he didn’t deserve that award but believe he won it because he was the only nominee present in Ghana for the ceremony. Uti has also received some criticism for what is being termed as rudeness, for seemingly ignoring Joseph Agbeko and Tinny, the presenters of the award Uti won. The presenters of the award were seen reaching out to congratulate Uti but the Big Brother Africa star, ignored them and grabbed his statuette from the usherette and went straight to give his acceptance speech.
