Ghana DJ Awards Categories Unveiled

Categories for the Ghana DJ Awards which was launched last Friday, March 30 2012, at the African Regent Hotel in Accra to honour the efforts of Ghana’s skilled Disc Jockeys have been unveiled by Merqury Republic Events—the award organisers.

The award categories include an exhaustive list of subcategories in three (3) main sections to ensure every type of DJ appropriately gets the recognition they deserve on the award night. The three main sections are the Public, Industry and Honorary categories.

Subcategories in the Public category are:

Best Gospel DJ Best Highlife DJ Best Raggae Dj Popular DJ of the Year Best Female DJ Best Radio DJ Best Mobile DJ and Best Club DJ.

The Industry category also features subcategories to honour the best DJs in areas such as:

Video Jockey Mixtape DJ of the Year Scratching DJ Night Club DJ Artiste DJ Best Record Promoter and Best Event DJ.

The final section is the Honorary category especially set aside to honour persons or groups whose efforts and achievements in the music distribution and promotion, radio play facilitation, music endorsements or putting music on rotation at social events to make them enjoyable to the masses deserve special commendation. Subcategories in this section include:

DJ Discovery of the Year Best International DJ Best International Ghana DJ Lifetime Achievement and Best Ghanaian DJ of the Year.

Nominations for the award opened last Monday, April 2, 2012. Nominees for either the Public, Industry or Honorary categories will be selected by a panel of music industry professionals as well as by popular public voting—details available on the event’s website at www.ghanadjawards.com.

The prestigious award, which is backed by the Musicians Association of Ghana (MUSIGA) is slated for September 22, 2012 but will be preceded by awards for the Industry category nominees– the date for this event and venue is yet to be set. The main event on September 22, 2012, however, will feature awards for the Public and Honorary nominees.
