Last Saturday, the 2019 edition of the Ghana DJ Awards came off at the International Conference Center in Accra and has sparked confusion among industry players because of some of the announced winners.

Notable among them was the Overall Best DJ Award that went to the youngest DJ in Ghana, DJ Switch.

Many have argued that even though the young girl in question made some exploits such as Melinda Gates’ Foundation’s annual Goalkeepers event in New York in the year under review she did not outperform her superiors in the game who were in the same category.

DJ Black, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Mic Smith, DJ Sly and DJ Aroma were also nominated in the same category.

The Spokesperson for the Ghana DJ Awards, Mr Ola Michael, who sought to clarify issues that sparked the controversies, said that the young DJ, real name Erica Tandoh, deserved the award.

He told Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s Showbiz Agenda on November 4 that ahead of the awards, some amendments were made with regards the awards definitions.

Prior to the amendment, the eligible winner in the said category was expected to have actively plied his or her trade for over a five-year period, with national and international appeal among others.

These, he indicated, put DJ Switch a notch higher above her ‘seniors’ in the said category.

DJ Switch also won the Female DJ of the Year award.

Congratulations to all award winners!
