Ghana Women Awards, the premier awards ceremony aimed at celebrating the success of women of excellence in various facets of the society, is set to be staged on the 1st of July, 2012 which is symbolically Ghana’s Republic Day. This was disclosed by the event’s organizers, Brein Consult. According to the organizers, this year’s edition of the annual event promises to get even bigger and better as it partners with African tradition oriented television station, TV Africa.

As part of the new package of the show, there will be a 13 week reality television show on TV Africa which will profile all nominees in the various categories, their work in the last year and the impact they are having on their various sectors.

This year as well, the public will be given the opportunity to vote for their preferred nominees in selected public sector categories. According to organizers, this is aimed at making it a national process and involving the public fully in the selection and awarding process for the women that they believe are truly making a difference in the country.

The categories for this year’s awards include, among others, Best/Outstanding Female Teacher /Educationist of the year, Outstanding Woman/Female Security Service Personnel of the year, Outstanding Sports Woman/Female of the year, Outstanding Woman/Female Entertainment Personality of the year, as well as the Outstanding Woman/Female Entrepreneur of the year. Other categories for recognition include awards in the Health Service, Politics, Traditional leaders, and Media practitioners. The highest award on the night is certainly the Legendary Woman of the year award, which is always very keenly contested and controversial.

Activities will be crowned with a Grand National event on the 1st July to award and celebrate Ghana’s most influential and successful women.

It is expected that this year’s award ceremony will build on the success of the last edition, which was a glitzy and glamorous affair attended some of the most decorated women in the country including the Former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Dr. Mary Grant, Peace Fm’s Maame Afua Konadu, Nana Serwaa Bonsu and many others.

It also saw the participation and support of the likes of Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Mr. Alex Segbefia (Deputy Chief of Staff), the South African High Commissioner, H.E. Ibrahim Khali, the Former Palestinian Ambassador, the Canadian High Commissioner, American Ambassador, Director of immigration, Chief Fire Officer, Chief Director MOWAC and many others from the world of politics, business and the public sector.

Undoubtedly, women contribute tremendously towards nation building and thus deserve to be celebrated in the grandest fashion; therefore it is expected that this year, the Ghana Women Awards is gearing up to truly celebrate the Ghanaian woman.
