Ghanaian music has received major props from award-winning South African rapper, Khuli Chana.
In an interview with Jay Foley and Jeremie on Live FM, Chana said: “Ghana has got some of the best rappers I have ever heard. Shout out to Sarkodie . And shout out to Stonebwoy.”
Stonebwoy and Sarkodie have both won the Best International Act Africa at the Black Entertainment Television Awards (2015), Artiste of the year at the Ghana Music Awards and were nominated at the recently held MTV Africa Music Awards(MAMAs) 2015.
Chana will be performing alongside Stonebwoy as headlining artistes at the Absolut Vodka After Party, an event to to celebrate nominees at the 2015 MAMAs.
He reminisced on his very first public performance during the interview.
“The first one was crap. I remember everybody’s mom came there to watch us perform. It was at a fashion show, and we rehearsed all week until on the night then, I don’t know. Somehow they didn’t have mics for us.”
“So we had to scream, it was very embarrassing. You know it was like people in the crowd, they were just like ‘what the hell are these guys doing.’
He mentioned performing with Drake, Kendrick Lamar and 2Chainz as some of his memorable performances.
Chana has won awards at the Channel O Awards, South African Music Awards and other prestigious awards schemes. He is currently a judge on Vuzu TV’s reality hip hop show, The Hustle.
