Despite claims by some stakeholders that the Ghanaian movie industry has collapsed, actor Prince David Osei thinks otherwise.

Addressing the state of the Ghanaian movie industry in an interview with GhOne TV, he acknowledged that while the industry is not as vibrant as it once was, it is far from dead.

Citing the case of the Nigerian movie industry, Prince David Osei pointed out that the transition from DVDs and CDs to digital platforms caused a disconnect, but efforts are being made to adapt and monetise content on platforms like YouTube.

“It's not dead. It's not collapsed. Nigerians have the numbers and there are a lot of private sector individuals who support the movie fraternity. Over here, it's different.

“Initially, when we started, there was a disconnect when we transitioned from the DVDs and the CDs to digital. A lot of people didn't follow. That's where the lapses began, the Nigerians were smart when they transitioned from VCDs to DVDs. Then they went to YouTube.

“We were laughing at them then. But now they are cashing out with monetisation from YouTube and Facebook. That's what we are trying to grow in Ghana,” he said.

He further accused those who made such claims of doing so because they were not being approached for projects.

“If they call you to come and film, it's not dead. But if they don't call you, then to you, it's dead,” he said.
