Ghana’s Kenneth Awotwe Darko joins GRAMMY Recording Academy

Ghanaian multimedia journalist and culture enthusiast, Kenneth Awotwe Darko has achieved an astounding milestone.

He has been admitted as a Professional member of the prestigious Grammy Recording Academy’s Class of 2024.

The Recording Academy, known for its rigorous selection process, inducts individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the music industry.

As a Professional member, Kenneth Awotwe Darko will join an elite group of artists, producers, engineers, and other music executives and professionals worldwide who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of music.

He also gets the rare opportunity to submit entries for consideration for the Grammy Awards via peer-to-peer review among other resources in the music business.

Social media users see Kenneth’s admission into the Academy as proof of to his dedication and impact in the fields of journalism and cultural advocacy.

With a career spanning several years, Kenneth who plies his trade with JoyNews and Myjoyonline has distinguished himself through his insightful reporting, in-depth cultural analysis, and commitment to promoting African music, arts and culture on a global stage.

Speaking on his admission via X (formerly Twitter), Kenneth expressed his gratitude and excitement.

He added that “my thrill lies in the hope to make a difference for peers, the music community and foster diversity in the Recording Academy.”

Kenneth Darko’s inclusion in the Grammy Recording Academy’s Class of 2024 is not only a personal achievement but also a source of pride for Ghana.

As an academy member, his job is clearly cut out for him as they have already kicked off with entry processes for the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

Mr Darko and other Professional members are to submit recordings commercially released in the United States in the year under review for GRAMMY consideration.

This year's 2024 class of invitees comprises 45% women, 57% people of color, and 47% individuals under the age of 40.

With these new members, the Recording Academy says it is on track to meet its goal of adding 2,500 women Voting Members by 2025, achieving this milestone a year ahead of schedule.
