The world acclaimed South African dance theatre group, Africa Umoja will be in Ghana for the first time to stage an explosive performance at the National Theatre from May, 29– May 30, 2010. There will be two shows on both days at 3PM and 7Pm respectively.
Africa Umoja is an explosive dance theatre group that tells the story of South Africa’s extraordinary history through a thrilling two hour dance drama performance that leaves their audiences in awe. Africa Umoja’s elaborate performances and stories are presented with such intensity, soul and spirit that audiences across the world cannot help but to give them a standing ovation each time.
Through their vibrant artistic performances, we learn to appreciate our culture and get a glimpse into the African story anew. The group has toured virtually the whole world and perform on a daily basis at their home Theatre Hall – Victory Theatre - in South Africa.
Africa Umoja is all about the revival of African Theatre. The group once in Ghana will hold workshops with various dance groups as part of their visit. It is hoped that that exposure will rub off on their Ghanaian counterparts who will move on with the experience to cause a revival of the once vibrant Ghanaian dance theatre.
Charterhouse, organizers of the event, believes that the story as told by Africa Umoja is the story of Africa that all can relate to. The performances of Umoja brought vividly to life on stage will serve as a reminder to Ghanaians theatre professionals and encourage them to work harder at attain the heights that Africa Umoja has.
