Westchester, NY –Do you ever think that one day a beauty queen born in Ghana or America by Ghanaian parents would become a Miss America or Miss USA or having a proclamation declared in her honor?
This journey has begun and it starts at Westchester County, NY, in a church called The United Christian Mission headed by the well respected man of God, Pastor Prince Osei Ameyaw. The name of this future Miss America is no other than the daughter of Pastor and Mrs Ameyaw, Mercy Ameyaw, who has just became the first runner-up in the Miss Teen New York USA 2003 beauty pageant. Mercy is very intelligent, well cultured, respectful and has a very long list accolades to her name that would make you use the word “Super & Incredible”.
Some of the awards includes; The board of Legislature, Westchester County declaring a proclamation of every Nov. 19 in Westchester as Mercy Amoyaw day just like the Martin Luther King day, She is also the Vice president of Youth Council and became the best student of the year 2003 in Westchester County. Recently she had dinner with Mayor Bloomberg of NY and John Ashcroft, Attorney General, USA.
Mercy has made history because she has become the first Ghanaian or an African in NY to either become a winner or a first runner up in the Miss Teen NY USA beauty pageant history. Also the first Ghanaian ever at her age to have a proclamation declared in her honor in the state of NY or America as whole. This success deserves mentioning as it has made our country Ghana, Ghanaians and Africans in NY and America proud.
