Mrs. Victoria Aboagye, of the Victory Beauty Salon, Koforidua, has been adjudged the winner of the Golden Scissor Award 2005 West Africa final held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday.
The competition showcased new elegant techniques in hairdressing and styling with the spectacular presentation of styles created by two participants from each country. The countries comprised Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d'voire and Senegal.
For her award, Mrs. Victoria Aboagye took home a whooping amount of $3,000.00 cash while her runner up; Miss Olaide Aladeife of Glamour Beauty Salon of Nigeria took home $1,500.00.
Mrs. Victoria Aboagye, again, won the Best Bridal hairstyle and took home $750.00 cash. Whiles the best avant-garde hairstyle award went to Mrs. Fatoumata Diallo, a Senegalese of Fatba Coiffure Salon. She took home $750.00 for her award.
Softsheen. Carson, producers of Dark and Lovely products, which is enjoying progressive growth, said at a press meeting after the event that, plans to award barbers were in the pipeline as part of the subsequent Golden Scissor Award to be held.
The Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Jerome Camus disclosed this in an answer to one of the questions from the press. "We have plans of including barbers in the competition since they work with the hair".
Mrs. Natalie Lovence, the marketing manager said, the aim of the event was to give hairdressers the opportunity to show the world what they were made of. "There is the need for talented hairdressers to upgrade themselves and also showcase their skills".
She said also that, they were going to keep a strong relationship with participants and the winners would go to Niger to participate in two other events.
The contestants were expected to dress their models' in avant-garde hairstyle and bridal hair. They were expected to use 75% of the model's hair for the bridal.
