Ghanaian coach Wants ‘Unruly’ Mzbel Out Of President’s Cup

Ghanaian coach Opeele Boateng has asked organizers of the President’s Cup to remove ‘unruly’ musician Mzbel from the list of entertainers for Friday’s match to honour the country’s leader.

Giants Kotoko will take on league champions Berekum Chelsea in the annual match organized by the GHALCA.

Mzbel, a controversial hip-life musician, was recently brought before the law courts, accused of physically assaulting a police officer Lumorvi Wonder. Mzbel was held in custody for allegedly assaulting and obstructing a police officer from executing his duty after a friend of the musician disobeyed commands to move his vehicle that was obstructing traffic in Accra.

Opeele says rewarding Mzbel with singing at one of the biggest sports events in Ghana when she has been accused of such a serious crime is an insult to the president of the country.

“It is not done anywhere in the world when such a serious crime is alleged to have been committed and we reward the person with on a big platform,” Opeele said on Asempa FM.

“She is mired in controversy and she must clear her name first of the unruly claims. “Giving her this opportunity to sing at this event is an insult to all Ghanaians.

“The world over when people like Tiger Woods and the rest commit misjudgments sponsors withdraws their sponsorship. “GHALCA must do the right thing and withdraw Mzbel from the event.”Meanwhile GHALCA is yet to respond to calls from Ghanasoccernet.com over the calls to remove Mzbel from Friday’s programme line-up.

Several sports stars lose their sponsorship deals when they are in the news for the wrong reasons.
