Goat Thief Gets 2 yrs in Hard Labour

THE KOFORIDUA Community Tribunal chaired by Mr. G. K. Adae has sentenced one Yaw Alado to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a she goat valued at ?80,000 belonging to Mrs. Agnes Asante.

Briefing the court, Chief Inspector A. Adzraku, prosecuting, said on February 6, this year, around 12:05 am, the complainant and three others were returning home after visiting a friend when they saw Alado carrying the she goat.

Accordingly, when Alado was questioned on where he was taking the goat, he did not give proper explanation and was then arrested and handed over to the police.

The prosecution told the court that later in the day, Mrs Agnes Asante introduced herself as the owner of the goat and Alado was, therefore, charged for stealing the goat.

The accused pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Before the sentence was slapped on him, Yaw Alado prayed for leniency as he is the first offender and a young man but the plea was not accepted and he was convicted to go and serve 24 months in prison.
