Gospel musician stands for MUSIGA General Secretary

Kwesi Ernest, gospel musician and general secretary for the United Gospel Musicians Association (UGMA), has stated his intention to stand for the post of General Secretary for MUSIGA as campaigns go on for the election of a new president to replace Alhaji Sidiku Buari.

The gospel musician told Weekly Fylla that he believes he has all the experiences needed to fill that capacity given his position as the GS for UGMA and also due to his vast knowledge of the Ghanaian music industry.

“I have managed musicians like Stella Seal, Azigiza Jnr, the late Brother Philip and a host of others and I am a musician myself. I have been in this industry for a long time and I believe I know the ins and outs of the business and how to develop it” he said.

Come November 14 at Sunyani, elections would be held and former MUSIGA General Secretary,  Jude Lomotey is expected to hand over her position to an eligible successor among many candidates of whom Kwesi Ernest is one.

According to him, being elected as the next GS would give him a platform to create a large market for musicians to sell their albums. “Its high time we spread our market to reach the international field just as works of foreigners find their way into this country and other African countries. We must first expand our market outlets here to reach every corner of the country and then penetrate through to the foreign market.”

“I will also create the platform for musicians to gain more education and training in how to compose music fit for the international market. This calls for intensive education programs organized for the musicians and the general public so that we can appreciate the quality of songs”

He also said that he would introduce talent shows like the reality shows such as Mentor and Stars of The Future to help train young musicians to be more serious and professional with their work.
