Gospel musicians should 'stay in their lane' - Choirmaster

Joining a section of the public bashing award-winning Gospel sensation, SP Kofi Sarpong for performing Kofi Kinaata’s popular Susuka song at a Gospel Rock Show, is Choirmaster.

SP Kofi Sarpong after performing the inspirational song has been under public backlash over the past days, due to the attention his colleague Gospel musician, Naa Mercy, called to his act.

Naa Mercy, who was so much against SP Kofi Sarpong’s performance, could not subdue her opinion than to publicly condemn the act, arguing that God is a jealous God.

Kwesi Ernest, Manager of the African Borborbor singer, however advised up and coming Gospel artistes to be wary of how they parade themselves in the name of being holy, adding that, SP Kofi Sarpong is well noted for ministering any genre of song he finds inspiring and there is nothing wrong with that.

In an exclusive interview with the Flex newspaper, Hiplife artiste, Choirmaster, who shared Naa Mercy’s sentiments, warned Gospel musicians to stick to their genre and stop crossing boundaries.

“SP Kofi Sarpong shouldn’t have performed Kofi Kinaata’s Susuka at a Gospel Rock Show. It is so wrong! Gospel musicians should stay in their lane. Susuka is an inspirational song, but it was sung by a secular musician. What has darkness got to do with light? Herty Borngreat featured Sarkodie on her song, waa look? So now who is winning souls for who?” the Obsession singer quizzed.

“They are not winning any souls for Christ. Worldly souls are rather winning them over. They even copy the Azonto dance in their music videos. It’s a shame how these Gospel acts are not being creative. They shouldn’t wait till secular musicians do something before they copy,” Choirmaster added.

The Pull Me Down hit maker further stated that, his opinion on the issue are mainly based on the teachings of the Church, so no one should assume he got something against SP Kofi Sarpong or Kofi Kinaata, because they are even friends. His Hook Me Up single is out for downloads, fans should make it go viral. He has also featured on Hitz FM’s Merqury Quaye’s new single titled Remember.
