The Ga Mantse Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has called on the government to produce a movie about former Ghanaian boxer, Azuma Nelson.

Speaking at the second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit in Accra, King Teiko Tsuru II acknowledged the importance of cinema in preserving Ghana's culture and heritage.

He emphasised that Ghana has many untold stories, urging the government to prioritise narratives about legends like Azumah Nelson.

"A film about Azumah Nelson would showcase culture, inspiration, and future aspirations.

"We are on Ga and Ga-Adamgbe land, and considering that Azumah is a custodian of the Ga Adamgbe culture, his story is that of one of the most accomplished athletes on the African continent. His journey embodies culture, inspiration, and future projection, reflecting the African way," he stated.

King Teiko Tsuru II further encouraged Africans to leverage film as a tool for social change.

He pointed out that culturally-themed films depict Africa's heritage and its potential for the future.

"As we embark on this journey at the Africa Cinema Summit, let us reaffirm our commitment to cinema as a vital tool for cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and social transformation. The relevance of cinema cannot be overstated; it reflects our past, represents our present, and projects our future," he retorted.

The second annual Africa Cinema Summit, which began on October 7, will conclude on October 10 in Accra.

The event's first day featured British-Sierra Leonean actor Idris Elba, along with Ghana's Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Andrew Egypa Mercer, and his Deputy, Mark Okraku-Mantey.
