Gracias Choir, a group of South Korean songsters, on Saturday staged a classical music concert in Accra to climax this year’s International Youth Fellowship (IYF) World Camp, hosted by Ghana.
The event, dubbed “2010 Christmas Cantata,” consisted of choir and instrumental performances, as well as vocal ensembles that did not only convey the joyful good news of Christ’s birth but also featured world-famous carols and grand musical pieces.
These include “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “White Christmas,” “He Shall Purify the Sons of Levi,” and “For Unto Us a Child is Born”.
It was to take the audience to a place far away from the hectic maze of daily life as well as offer them the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in grand fashion.
More than 300 members of IYF as well as some members of the general public who thronged the Accra International Conference Centre, venue for the event, could not hide their joy at the spectacular performance of the group, especially when it sang the local popular song in Twi translated as “I will wait upon the Lord”.
The IYF 2010 World Camp, which was under the theme: "Inspiring the Youth for a Change Tomorrow," brought together over 1,200 youths from 14 countries to share cultures.
