Grandfather before tribunal for incest

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Friday remanded in prison custody Samuel Tetteh Okai Mensah, a 63-year-old grandfather, charged with two counts of incest.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on December 7. Police Inspector Emmanuel Boison told the tribunal chaired by Mr Imoru Ziblim that Mensah lived with the victims, aged 20 and 21, who are his daughter and granddaughter respectively, at Kasoa in the Central Region.

He said between 1999 and early this year, Mensah forcibly had sex with the victims on different occasions. The prosecution said on each occasion Mensah warned them to keep it a secret otherwise he would stop caring for them.

The sexual affair resulted in his daughter being pregnant and he made her abort it. The victims eventually reported the ordeal to a family member who advised them to make a report to the police.
