Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as Guru, the newly elected president of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (SRC), has credited his colleague Sarkodie for his success.
According to Guru, Sarkodie’s endorsement played a pivotal role in launching his campaign for the presidency.
He expressed his gratitude in a tweet, stating, “@sarkodie, indeed you are my bonafide Gee. Your advice and endorsement on stage ignited my campaign. God bless you.”
Guru, together with his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, also known as Jay Lit, were announced winners of the polls on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
They polled 9455 votes out of the total valid votes cast of 18,659, securing 50.7% of the total votes.
They beat Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah and running mate, Lawrence Edinam Egleh who had secured 6645 votes, representing 35.6% of the total votes cast.
This victory comes after their campaign run was marred with controversy before the polls.
The rapper and his running mate were initially disqualified due to their non-resident status, violating Article 30 of the SRC constitution, which requires candidates to be campus residents.
