Happy Kids Launch Album

Sixty students of Happy Kids school of Kwashieman, Accra, comprising 45 girls and 15 boys will be performing at the school’s premises today in a musical extravaganza to launch their maiden album.

The album is titled ‘Yesu Ye Madamfo’, composed by Mr. Abraham O. Quarmyne, the Accra New Town Methodist Choirmaster and organist, who also teaches songs at Happy Kids.

Other tracks on the highly musical and entertaining album include ‘Hen Gyefo Name’ (Abraham Quarmyne), ‘Thuma Mina’ (Quarmyne), ‘The Rock of our Salvation (New love Annan) and ‘You are my Desire’ (Quarmnyne).

The rest are ‘How Sweet the Name of Jesus’ (Quarmyne), ‘Aseda? Medley’ (Richard Acquah & Quarmyne) and ‘O For A Thousand Tongue to Sing’ (Methodist Hymn).

In an interview with the proprietor, Madam Jemima Nartey, Spectator Arts learnt something interesting about the school.

“It began with only one child twelve years ago and since then we have tried to make music part of the school’s extramural activities”, she said. “So the kids leant songs that they sing at Open days, Speech Days, Carols Nights and during visits to friends of the school”.

Madam Nartey said it was four years ago when the school decided to form with choir and for the past two years, The Harmonic Choir has been rehearsing and attending workshops including that which was organized by Mac Tontoh.

All these efforts culminated in the production of the album that is being launched today, she said.

On his part, Mr. Quarmyne, the brain behind the whole concept said the school has plans to produce more albums in future. He said the album was recorded at Fame Music Production studio at Abeka Lapaz, opposite Abrantie Spot.

He lauded the contributions of Mr. Richard Acquah, Mr. Peter Arthur Mensah, both music tutors and organists par excellence.

Particular mention was made of Mr. Emmanuel K. B. Attah, Choirmaster and organist of Methodist Church, who handled the programming.
