"Happy" to know Goodies is back from jail - Mzbel

Sassy Ghanaian songstress Mzbel has expressed joy over the release of music producer, Isaac Abeiku Aidoo, more commonly known as Goodies from prison.

The ‘Legelege’ singer said her former manager and producer called her on the day of his release. “When I got the call, I was like who is this? And he said its Goodies. I asked my Goodies?!... I started screaming and crying,” she said with her voice still filled with excitement as she spoke to Morning Starr host Kafui Dey on her birthday Friday December 26, 2014.

The CEO of Goodies Music was on November 26, 2008, sentenced to 13 years in jail with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court for possessing 80 pellets of cocaine but was on Wednesday December 24 released after serving a little over 6 years.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, Courage Atsem explained his early release was due to the fact that he filed an appeal at an Accra Circuit Court which saw his sentence reduced from 13 years to about 6 years and 8 months.

Before going to prison, Goodies produced a tall list of hiplife artistes including Tic Tac, VIP, Sydney, Lord Kenya, and Nana Quame.

He also worked on collaborative projects between some Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes including 2Face and Tony Tetuila.

Mzbel said Goodies’ snags with the law came as a surprise to her.

“I was actually with Goodies. We travelled to Nigeria together and in few days I heard that he had his problem. But am so glad it’s over. Finally over” the singer said.

When asked to clear the air on conspiracy theorists who suggested she was the one who blew the whistle on her boss, Mzbel laughed and told Dey “Oh no. I never heard that one. It is not true”.
