Kumawood Multimedia, organizers of the annual Kumawood Akoben Film Festival has explained why Hausa and Ewe movies had no nomination in this year’s event.
Samuel Darko, CEO of Kumawood Multimedia in an interview with Nana Amoako on Ashh FM in Kumasi said movies from the two industries failed to meet their standards, hence their exclusion.
According to Samdackus, movies that were submitted from both industries were not enough to be nominated for a category.
“Previously we had about thirty categories but it has been reduced this year because we did not get Hausa and Ewe movies. The movies they shot throughout the year did not meet the expected number. At least we have to get about five movies for each category but we had one or two movies from the Hausa and Ewe industry. When we face challenges like this, we use those movies for the following year’s event because we cannot nominate them for this year’s awards.
For this year we had Akan which is the Twi movies, Frafra and Dagbani movies” Samdackus explained.
The 5th edition of Kumawood Akoben Film Festival comes off on 27th December 2015 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi.
