Gifty, the spouse of Kumawood actor Oteele, has revealed startling details about her husband's drastic weight loss due to a mysterious ailment.
She recounted to Zionfelix that this severe health crisis occurred three years after their wedding.
The couple tied the knot in 2019, and according to Gifty, Oteele suffered from the illness until roughly 2022, which was more than a year ago.
"Three years into our union, my husband was struck by a grave sickness. Within a fortnight, he shed a significant amount of weight and became extremely thin. Initially, he could consume up to fifteen bottles of water a day, but then he couldn't even finish a single bottle of water," she described.
"His urine took on the appearance of Malta Guinness blended with ink. He lost the ability to walk, eat, or even move. He was confined to bed, and I had to attend to him daily," she continued.
Driven to despair, Gifty found herself pondering, "I began to question who my husband might have wronged. I wondered if he was suffering the repercussions of someone he may have upset."
The most exasperating aspect, she noted, was the absence of a definitive diagnosis, as all medical tests indicated her husband was in good health.
"We visited countless hospitals and underwent numerous tests, all fruitless. Only God understood what was transpiring. People even suggested we explore alternative treatments as the situation worsened. At times, he would receive as many as five IV drips simultaneously at the hospital," she disclosed.
During this time, Gifty was forced to deceive Oteele's colleagues by claiming he was away when answering his phone calls.
"It was divine intervention; sometimes he would awaken at noon after sleeping the entire night and this scared me. I had his phone, so whenever someone called, I had to fabricate stories that he was traveling or using a different number, even though he was right there in the room," she recounted.
Reflecting on what she described as her most challenging ordeal, Gifty said,
"The journey has been arduous. It's akin to selling all you own to have a child, only for the child to be born with challenges. It felt like trading joy for pain and suffering. Such is the nature of marriage at times."
