OFM Computer World, a music record label, has formally requested that YouTube restrict access to Team Eternity Ghana's popular track "Defe Defe" amid allegations of copyright infringement.

The label claims that the song includes portions of the original "Defe Defe" by Hallelujah Voices, used without authorization.

In anticipation of legal proceedings in the Ghana's courts, OFM has urged YouTube to make the video private.

"To prevent further unauthorized access, we request YouTube to render the video invisible as it constitutes copyright infringement," stated the label in a letter dated June 20.

The letter also highlighted a pattern of behaviour by Team Eternity Ghana, accusing them of habitually sampling other artistes' work without consent.

Kwame Mickey, the executive producer behind Hallelujah Voices' "Defe Defe," voiced his concerns on Facebook on June 18 when he questioned the originality of Team Eternity's song, suggesting it borrows the 'defe defe' line from his production.

"What is the difference between the two songs? Someone needs to do the right thing," Mickey expressed.

Despite differences in rhythm and melody, Mickey insists the lyrical similarities warrant a case for copyright infringement.

The "Defe Defe" song by Hallelujah Voices, penned by Osuani Afrifa and produced by Kwame Mickey for Kaakyire Music Productions, was released in 2004.

The controversy has led to a public debate with some critics alluding to a clear breach of copyright while others believe otherwise.

Meanwhile, Team Eternity has not yet formally addressed the allegations.
