Houseboy Jailed Four Years

AN ACCRA Circuit Tribunal has jailed Joseph Kwame Nyatey for four years in hard labour on a charge of stealing.

The accused who was jailed last week was said to have stolen $850 and other personal items, including a Nokia Mobile phone and jewelleries, belonging to a Mr. Kwadwo Asabre Ababio, his boss.

The prosecutor, Inspector S.B. Sarfo, told the court that between August and September, this year, the complainant made a report to the police that he had started experiencing petty pilfering of his personal effects, as well as various sums of money, both in local and foreign currencies.

On October 21, 2002, a friend of the accused person informed the complainant that his househelp had been bringing foreign currencies to their house for safe-keeping.

Upon this information, the accused was arrested, and in the course of interrogations, Nyatey mentioned a certain Bismark as the one in whose possession the stolen items were kept.

Bismark was subsequently arrested after which the following items were found in his possession: one TV set, two video decks, one suit case, other personal effects and a cash of ?160,000 and $100.

The items were, however, retrieved by the police and handed over to the complainant.

The accused also was alleged to have given one Nokia Mobile phone, one Motorola hand-phone and ?2 million to a certain Nii, who is on the run.

Inspector Sarfo adduced that the two were charged with the offence after thorough investigations.
