Stella Nutsu, 25, the housewife who recently went on her knees pleading with police to arrest her husband, Ernest Mireku, 29, who constantly batters her, has now rescinded her decision.
Stella is constantly assaulted by the husband anytime she denies the man sex even when she is in her menstrual period. She was alleged to have told the Tesano Police in Accra last Thursday that once the husband takes good care of all her needs, she is prepared to endure the constant torture she undergoes at the hand of her husband.
As a result, the Tesano Police say they would no longer arrest Stella?s husband since the woman always turned round to plead for the release of the husband any time he was arrested for assaulting her. A police officer at the Tesano Police Station who pleaded anonymity, on Tuesday, expressed shock and dismay at Stella?s mind-boggling decision.
The officer said any time the husband assaults her no matter how serious the injury would be, she would plead for the release of her husband and go back to receive more beatings. ?As I am speaking to you now, I have credible information that, Stella is undergoing more life-threatening torture from the husband but she would never leave, nor would she ever dare also to make a report to us because we have vowed not to effect any arrest. We are tired of her,? said the police officer.
It will be recalled that on Saturday 26 October 2002 issue of ?The Spectator?, Stella pleaded with the Tesano police to effect the arrest of her husband following a severe assault and torture she received from him. She had told The Spectator that she could no longer withstand the constant battering from her husband over the past years.
Stella then recounted to the police how on Monday 21 October 2002, she was severely assaulted resulting in deep wound cuts all over her body for denying the husband sex. Stella who said she had been married to Mireku for over four years, said she was once beaten by her husband until she had a miscarriage.
Stella had told The Spectator of several instances of beatings she went through, saying she feared for her life. Meanwhile, all attempts to get in touch with Stella at her Abeka residence have proved futile as she has become elusive.
