Husband attacks estranged wife with pestle

Asamankese (E/R), June 11, GNA- The Asamankese Circuit Court, has granted a two million cedis bail to a man who attacked his wife with a pestle for deserting her matrimonial home with their two children. Kofi Agyei, 22, who pleaded guilty, is to re-appear before the court on June 15.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alhassan Amadu, said two years ago, Gladys Korkor, left her parent's home because her husband failed to provide for the upkeep of his family.

He said on May 29, this year, Agyei visited his estranged wife at Asuotwene at midnight and demanded to see his children. Chief Inspector Amadu said Korkor refused to open the door due to the "ungodly hour" but furious Agyei forced the door opened and insulted his wife, who raise the alarm and took her heels.

Agyei chased Korkor to a nearby house and hit her with a pestle on her back and she fell down.

He said occupants of the house who heard the wailing of Korkor went to her rescue and rushed her to the Asamankese Government Hospital where she was treated and discharged for the injuries she sustained.
