Up-and-coming artiste Safo Newman has said he was not disappointed that his hit single ‘Akokoa’ did not make it into the nominees list for the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
Safo Newman burst onto the music scene with 'Akokoa,' which quickly garnered a substantial following and impressive streaming numbers on social media platforms in 2023.
Fans believed the track would attract some nominations for the 2024 TGMAs.
However, upon the release of the list, the song was notably absent, not even making it into the Unsung category, despite endorsements from prominent figures like rapper Sarkodie.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Safo Newman shared how he was forewarned about the potential snub, thus, he was not really hurt when his song was absent from the list.
He shared that while he values recognition, his passion for crafting impactful music transcends the pursuit of awards.
"When I filed for nomination for TGMA, an insider told me my song did not meet the criteria for selection. So yeah, I expected a brush-off. It did not come as a surprise to me though.
"Some songs are so unique that they fall outside of award schemes. The world needs such songs so I am not bothered by the snub. In fact, it is a motivation for me to work harder.
"I will be making good music without pressure. We are just putting in the work and if it gets recognised, thanks be to Jah, but that is not my primary motive. Awards are not my motivation for making music. I aim to create songs that have a lasting impact on everyone," he shared.
