Spoiler alert people!!! Here’s all you need to know about the NSMQ stage play brouhaha.

President and Director of Nyansapo Production Daniel Kojo Delong has revealed to Pamela Boateng of Spyderlee Entertainment TV that his outfit had an ‘unofficial’ contact with Prime Time Limited, organizers of the National Science & Math Quiz competition among students in various second cycle schools across the nation two weeks before they would stage their much publicized stage play dubbed ‘National Science& Math Quiz.’

During the interview on the Prime Time news on First News Network (FNN) last week, Delong revealed exactly what happened when his outfit was served with a court injunction not to stage the play.

‘We were preparing for our show which was supposed to come off on the 8th of July, 2017 but then on Thursday evening, we had a court summon from Prime Time that we were not supposed to use the National Science & Math Quiz because it’s their brand they are using.

We argued that ours is a comedy and theirs is a competition which are two different things…the funny thing is she (CEO of Prime Time Limited) hasn’t seen the play before, she doesn’t even know the content of what we are doing yet she concluded that we were doing round 1-round 5 and that we’re going to ridicule them,’ he said.

He continued, ‘We had a letter from court around 4pm so we couldn’t respond immediately. The following day, we headed to the court and involved our lawyer to see what we can do about it but it didn’t work out.

Before we realized, a letter of injunction had been brought to the National Theater as late as 4:30pm on Friday which was obvious that Prime Time knew exactly what they were doing. All they wanted to do was to shut us down; that’s all they wanted to do.

So at that time, we tried to do something about it, we pushed and pushed but nothing came out of it.

At 10pm, we were still at the National Theater so we put ourselves together and decided to stage a new play because we didn’t want to disappoint our patrons and within 12hrs, we put up a whole new different play.’

At the time of the interview, Delong stated that his lawyers were still working on the case and added that they are waiting for the date of their first hearing in court.

When asked by the Presenter Pamela Boateng why Nyansapo hadn’t reached out to Prime Time Limited, the President of the production house responded; ‘the truth of the matter is, we had contact with Prime Time two weeks before the show. On 1st July, we even met the CEO of Prime Time together with the quiz mistress at the Accra Mall.

We spoke with her and she asked us to come to her office on Tuesday. We called her on Monday which was a holiday but we couldn’t reach her. The next thing we heard was she saying she doesn’t want to see us in her office and that we will hear from her lawyers…she blatantly refused to see us.

The quiz mistress on the other hand was cool, she was even laughing and saying she would come and watch. We were about giving her a complimentary ticket and the Prime Time CEO said NO; she shouldn’t accept it and that we should bring it to her office on Tuesday.’

Daniel Delong concluded by saying that his production house is made up of very gifted people who do not give up easily. He further went on to add that if his outfit wants to still stage a play that centers on the National Science & Math Quiz, they can easily do that by just changing the play title.

‘Nyansapo is one group that is crazily gifted that nothing can move us. If we want to do the National Science and Math Quiz, we can easily do it. We can give it a different title and it will still fly.

All we want to say is, whatever we were doing wasn’t intended to demean the organizers and contestants of the National Science and Math Quiz,’ he concluded.
