Reggie Rockstone, who obviously, is not called the ‘Grandpapa’ of hiplife for no reason, has corrected that he did not only name the hiplife genre, but he was the one who originated it.
Asked by host, Dr. Cann, in a phone interview on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra whether he has heard people say that he did not found rap music in Ghana, he stated that he has never claimed to have brought rap to Ghana.
“What I brought is hiplife and when it is being said, it should be said well. I didn’t just come to name it, and go back abroad but I worked on it”, he said.
According to the legend, since he started from his song ‘tsooboi’ to ‘11-11’ with Sarkodie, down till date, he has been working on hiplife and he has never given up.
“It has never even been a debate about the origination of hiplife. If you ask anyone from the young to the old, who doesn’t know where hiplife came from?”, he rhetorically questioned.
Reggie furthered, “If they try to argue and you ask them who brought it, then they stare blank at you. They’ve never been able to tell who else started hiplife besides me. Never”.
