Ghanaian comedian Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng known in showbiz circles as Funny Face has indicated that he doesn’t compare himself to anyone in life and chooses to stay happy doing what he loves to do best; making people laugh away their problems.

In a telephone interview with asempanews.com, “Swaggon Papa” as he is affectionately called was upbeat about the future of comedy in Ghana and praised the late Bob Santo born John Evans Bosompem and veteran comedian Kwaku Asonaba Darko aka Super O.D. for their incredible contribution to comedy in Ghana.

Quizzed on how Nigeria’s comedy has evolved and flourished, he observed that he sees no comedian whether Ghanaian or Nigerian as competition.

He said, “Have you ever seen me compare myself to any comedian outside Ghana before? “Obiara ndi ne lane mu” to wit “everyone should focus on their own goals and targets” yeah, I live my life based on my own unique abilities and do not make comparisons nor envy others and that is just how I operate.”

On how he gets prepared before shows, he revealed that despite the flare, its expedient for every artiste to learn about their audience prior to the show and script it to ensure they meet the expectation of their audience.

“You see, what may be funny to you, may not be funny to another person; and when you go on stage without a script, any utterances from the public can distract and mess up your entire performance. So beyond talent, constant practice and preparation are key,” he observed.

The Swaggon Papa noted that his secret for staying afloat in the industry over the years is his resolve to be happy with himself at all times regardless of his circumstances.
