Ghana-based Nigerian musician, Randy Raphael Okologo otherwise called Mr. Magic has made a shocking revelation about how he abandoned tertiary education to pursue his music dream.
A lot of people in his family and friends kicked against his decision. However, he says he has not regretted the decision, because that is what he wanted.
“I attended Delta State University but I dropped out along the way after level 300 because I was not happy with it – I wanted music. Yes, it was not the right thing to everyone around me but it was to me. My mum was the only person with me on that but now my dad is ok with it.
“I don’t have any regrets; not even a single one, because I am chasing my dreams and I am getting closer day by day, which gives me so much joy and happiness. At least I have the basic education to help with my mum on her timber and real estate business,” he said.
Mr. Magic is the first child of two boys and a girl from Delta State, Nigeria. He is described as one of Nigeria’s music talents in Ghana to watch out for.
He has so far shown signs of a successful musical career underway with his interesting songs with some popular Ghanaian artistes such as EL, Kesse and Gemini.
He started his music career in secondary school final year with a five-man band called New Eraz in 2005. They were doing demos and class freestyles. So after school they decided to exhibit it on a higher level and see how people would react.
In 2006 the group launched an album but it did not really work because they had no exposure, experience or orientation on how to go about it. Mr. Magic’s mum sponsored the album which was titled ‘TDK’ meaning ‘They Don’t Know’.
“She has really played a great part in my career,” he revealed about his mother.
He went solo and decided to release his single titled ‘Screensaver’ featuring Ghana’s Kesse and Bullhaus Entertainment’s Natural Face and its video was shot by Pascal’s Breakthrough Media.
Subsequently, he released ‘Otirikonkon’ which featured Gemini, ‘My Logo’ and his latest ‘Same People’. He also had a song with EL and Ian Jazzy titled ‘Oh Yes’.
“‘Same People’ talks about how the same people who will look down on you when you start a journey will be the ones claiming friendship, and shouting praise when you finally get there. It happens every day. People think you will not go far so they pretend they don’t see you. When you go far then they start coming back,” he said about the content of the song.
