Ghanaian Dancehall musician Stonebwoy is in hot waters on social media after a video of him describing the act of throwing money at fans as ‘disrespectful’ popped up days after he was spotted doing the same.

In an interview with Sunyani-based Ark FM in August 2024, Stonebwoy could be heard saying, "Throwing money, I don’t like it, I see it as disrespect. If I’m on the streets and I throw money at fans, someone may get a lot, someone may not get anything.

“So what I’d prefer to do is, I would give them the money one by one in their hands. But if you throw the money at someone. Its disrespect.

“You could be throwing the money and someone will be running to pick and get injured. By the time you realise, the money he or she spends to treat the injury may be more than what he was running to pick,” he said.

Netizens, however, were quick to point out Stonebwoy going against his word at a recent appearance in Accra.

Stonebwoy had attended the Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala tournament at Kawukudi Astro Turf Park on Monday, September 23, 2024.

In a viral video, Stonebwoy was seen leaving the park in a convoy of cars accompanied by his personal bodyguards.

As he departed, his car was mobbed by fans, and Stonebwoy could be seen emerging from the sunroof of his Toyota Land Cruiser and spraying money into the air, prompting many fans to rush and grab it.

The video was met with condemnation from fans who accused the 2024 Artiste of the Year of going back on his word. Others, however, claimed that his statements came after his realisation that such acts were disrespectful.
