I'm not above the law - Stonebwoy admits

Stonebwoy Stonebwoy

Multiple award winning Ghanaian afrobeats, reggae/dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has said he is not above the laws of Ghana.

Speaking at a press conference to announce a unity concert dubbed: “Ghana First” with Shatta Wale at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, the 'Kpoo k3k3' hitmaker said it was a flawed impression that some people were above the law and could avoid sanctions when they go wrong.

“I want everyone out there to know that there are laws in Ghana and they work. It is a wrong misconception that some people are above the law. From experience, I can say the police are doing their jobs well. The truth is that you will never know till you are actually caught in it.

“Our attitude actually matters and we need to change how we behave towards people because it says a lot about us.

"The best thing for us to do is work on our flaws and shortcomings because it is an important aspect of life. We need to change it so the police can work, the law can work and that will bring peace and unity in the country,” he stated.

Stonebwoy also revealed that the media played a part in creating the rivalry between him and Shatta Wale.

“Instead of using their medium to promote peace between us, they found pleasure in thriving on the ‘beef’ between my brother and I which intensified the rivalry. They could have promoted us in a positive way and perhaps, we may have been united than divided,” he stated.

The two artistes' fierce rivalry, which has been ongoing for years, finally erupted on stage at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) held on May 18 with their respective camps coming to blows on the stage.

They were arrested after the incident and put before court where they have each been granted bail of GHS50,000.

They have also been banned indefinitely by the VGMA Board and stripped of the awards they won on the night.
