I’m not arrogant, just selective with scripts – Ellen White

Popular actress Ellen Kyei White has rejected talk of being a snob following claims that she has too often turned down offers to star in movies.

Clarifying her stance on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday April 29, Ms White said she was only a “simple” and “reserved” actress from Kumasi who would only make a decision to be part of a movie’s cast if impressed with its script.

The star added that in her ten years on the silver screen, other factors she has considered before agreeing to feature in movies have been the quality of the cast and of the director.

This, she said, is underpinned by her principle that maintaining one’s rating as a top actress involves rejecting the bait to feature in substandard movies.

“Some movies bring you down, so I am very selective when it comes to scripts. Before I go on set I go through scripts to see if it is OK for me to act [in such movies]. And then the cast and the director of the movie are very important, because if you star in just any movie, you are cast in all manner of movies and then people become fed up with seeing you in every movie.

Again, it is not about featuring in every movie that brings you recognition but starring in a few movies that are of good quality makes people see how good you are as an actress,” she told show host Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier).

The CEO of White’s Movie Production is premiering her fourth self-produced movie, The List, at the West Hills Mall’s Silverbird cinema on May 5, 2017.

Alongside Ellen White, the movie stars Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, Bill Asamoah, Kwaku Manu, Bernice Asare, Sabby Debrah, Akyere Buruwaa, Mama Cali, Funny Fey Akamenko, among others.
